Wooberry

I heard about Wooberry by word of mouth on various occasions since it opened less than two months ago and while I’m not really big on Froyo (frozen yogurt) I was really looking forward to giving this place a try. Located in Worcester, MA this is the city’s first and only (for now) locally owned and operated Froyo only place. Walking into Wooberry I immediately felt for lack of a better term at home. The atmosphere is very inviting and the décor is modern and bright and just feels like a place that you can relax while enjoying a nice frozen treat.
When I walked in the place was hopping all the seats were taken and there was a line almost to the back door. This wasn’t the least bit surprising as the shop is located near a few colleges and all the students are back by now. But the fast paced employees made it so I was waiting just long enough to look over large chalkboard like menu that takes up a whole wall and then some. I often find it hard to find someone who looks like they enjoy their job, but when it came time to order the staff was very friendly and offered up smiles with a good attitude. The seating also has a fast turnover time so by the time my group was done ordering there was a table for us to sit and enjoy.
Though there are only five flavors of made fresh daily froyo offered (they do switch out flavors so it all depends on the day you go), the over 40 toppings (from fresh fruit to cereal to even boba) offered leave many combinations to be tried.

Looks good enough, no?
Today, even though it was like 80 degrees out, I was in an autumn like mood so decided to try the pumpkin with warm dark caramel. At first it was delicious, like pumpkin pie in froyo form, a little sweet with the spices and a bit tart, which can sometimes be expected with frozen yogurt. But less than halfway through my dessert I found myself wishing that I had gotten a smaller portion, I’m even thinking the petite would have sufficed. The sweetness became over powering and I found a weird flavor in my mouth after every bite. Needless to say one of my companions today finished his large portion and half of my medium.
With that said I’ll definitely be going back to Wooberry at some point… I hear they have coconut this week…
Other likes:
- Everything they use: spoons, bowls, etc… are all biodegradable which they clearly label and there are compost only bins.
- Since they’re locally owned they use as many “local products as possible from farms and producers in Central Massachusetts.”
- Open late… or rather later than I would expect a frozen yogurt shop to be open.
Other info:
- Sizes offered are: petite, up to large; with prices ranging from $2.60-$4.60 and $.75 for the first topping and $.50 for any topping after that.

Let the Feast Commence.

I guess I'll start off by saying why I felt the need to start this blog. The short answer is Food.
I love food. Learning about it, cooking it, eating it.
Another passion I hold close to heart is writing. I simply just love words and what I can do with them.

I've been told a few times that I should try my hand at being a food critic.
(It counts if it was only my mom that said it right? I think so.)

So on the decision to combine two things I love, food and writing, The Girl who Ate Massachusetts was born.

Here I will post about all the foodie adventures in Massachusetts and beyond. Sometimes I may even post about what I've been cooking up myself. Hey, after all I have been working in a kitchen for 4+ years.

I'll hope you'll stick around, and check back often and most of all enjoy what you find here.
